Shop My Closet: Striped Maxi Skirt 3 Ways

Mood: Hopeful

Weather: Sunny, breezy, chillyish

Outfit Purpose: Out & About

Style Savvy: This striped maxi skirt I spotted on a go-back rack in Macy’s (marked down to a crazy clearance price) caught my eye whilst shopping. When I saw the size “large” I was bummed. I wear a small. I asked the sales girl to locate a smaller size but unfortunately there weren’t any available. Regardless, I tried it on because if it hung right on me I could always get it tailored. Low and behold, the skirt looked great and it only needed a few pinches in the waist to fit.

Why did this skirt grab my attention? It has all the classic elements that make this skirt timeless. And a hint of trend to make it relevant. For one, it’s maxi length. Secondly, it’s lightly pleated. Lastly, it’s mainly white which again is timeless and chic. The trend factor are the stripes, so there you go!

I wear the heck out of this skirt and because of the style and color of stripes, I can really create many different looks with it. As a stylist, I always stress that if you can’t create at least THREE different outfits with the piece you’re buying, then don’t buy it. Dig it?

Personal Style: On-the-Go

What’s Going On: Feeling “hopeful” today because life has thrown a curveball last week. My soon-to-be father-in-law called to share that his cancer came back and he’ll be starting chemo in a couple weeks. This makes me sad for my fiancé and his family. I’m trying to be hopeful but his diagnosis wasn’t the best and he’s in his 70’s and a bit frail. With all those factors, I’m being realistic but trying to be positive for my fiancé.

The thing is I’ve experienced stage 4 cancer with my stepdad 6 years ago. I don’t want to be a Debbie Downer, but I also don’t want my fiancé to be in denial of what to expect. Reality is harder to swallow of course, but it’s also better to be more realistic when it comes to things like this. That way you aren’t shocked even more when it doesn’t go as you hoped.

I’m also torn with what to do about our wedding. It’s set for October 6th this year but I’m not so sure if his dad will be able to fly from the East coast to the West coast after 6 months of chemo. That’s usually about the time when the symptoms kick in. At this moment everything is on hold and I’m not sure what everything will look like just yet. So I guess we’ll sit still, wait, pray and figure it out later. Sad Face 🙁  Do you have any advice?

** Side note: Do you like that I’ve gone back to this style of blogging? More like a journal entry? Just curious.
