How to Set Attainable New Year Goals + A Few of My Own

Resolutions, intentions, goals, vision boards … however you want to describe it, I believe any of these tools are a good way to start off the new year. My personal list of attainable goals for 2019 add up to 11 goals. That’s basically 1 goal per month.

I’ve created vision boards in the past and love this concept as well, but I don’t feel it spells out specific goals. Vision boards for me are an overall picture of how you want your life to look. This is a great add on with your goal setting list.

For the A-type personality, like myself who wants to complete actual projects within a year, I love writing them down in a list with pen to paper.

Below are some tips on how to write your list of goals and actually complete them throughout the year.

// Savvy Goal Setting Tips //

Specific and Attainable

For example, if you want to save money, write down “I will save $25 a week by setting up an auto deposit from my checking to savings” instead of “I want to save money”. Or if you’re looking to get fit write down “I will sign up for a pilates class twice a week and go” instead of “I will start exercising 3 times a week”

Relevancy

Think of how your goal pertains to your lifestyle for the year and how it can set you up for the long-term. For example, if you want to buy a new car or house in 2-5 years, saving money now will set you up for this goal in the long-term.

Deadline

This is something I don’t think most of us do for ourselves. I know I didn’t for the longest time. On my calendar I write down when I want to achieve my goals. This helps me stay focused on that specific goal coming up.

My Personal Goals

A few of my goals are daily activities I will implement Mon-Fri like wake up at 7am no matter what, I can sleep until 8:30 sometimes. Another is to shoot short videos and post daily on my Maria Von Losch channel, which is my social media/blogging expert platform I’m launching to set up some long-term business plans.

I thought I wanted to set goals for Savvynista’s YouTube channel but it’s not something that really excites me anymore and I don’t see a long-term payout like I once did. This is where I thought about “relevancy”. But with my actual Savvynista blog here, I have a goal to post articles every Mon, Wed and Fri and send out my newsletter every Tuesday.

If you have any tips to goal setting, leave in the comments below and I’ll share them on my Instagram stories @savvynista.
