BARBIE THE MOVIE
Just as one would expect from watching Barbie the movie, lots of eye candy from beginning to end, explosive punches of color (mainly pink), everyone and everything looking plastic or ‘perfect’ and all the different Dream Houses, cars, outfits and accessories on display taking you back to the days of playing with Barbie.
As I looked around the filled up movie theater, every seat was filled with women from all ages – little girls to women 50 plus. I love how one movie can touch the hearts of many different generations. I believe this one did by the laughter and claps.

The writing was witty, charming and emotional that cleverly merged a feminist storyline with undertones of what’s politically happening today.
There were a handful of favorites scenes but the one that cracked me up the most were the Kens having their Patriarchal revolution. Plus a great song scene with the Kens singing ‘Push’ from Matchbox 20.
They also included many of the discontinued Barbies, throwing some humorous shade towards them like Midge (pregnant Barbie) and Allan (Ken’s friend).
I also applaud America Ferrara’s monologue that snapped all the Barbie’s back into their feminist minds.
Interesting to look at this film on deeper level. It managed to spin the darker moments of this story to uncomfortable delight. You know, where you’re laughing but wondering why because this scene is making you think the opposite.
Congrats Greta Gerwig for bringing Barbie back into our lives in a savvy, cheerful and thoughtful way!
