The Truth About Using Store Bought Fashion Hair Color

Sometimes it’s fun to play with your hair color. Maybe add a few streaks of pink, purple or blue temporarily. Are you wondering the best way to achieve this look?

Our Beauty Director who’s also a professional hair expert weighs in on this topic.

“If you want vibrant fashion colors your best method is to visit a pro hair colorist,” said Mei-Li Rockot. “You can also get colored clip in pieces or temporary spray colors.”

If you have color treated hair, most fashion color semis and permanents won’t turn out how you want it. Virgin uncolored treated hair is the best if you’re dying your hair a fashion color.

This is why your best bet is to make an appointment with a hair colorist or use clip ins. But if you’re into experimenting with a fashion color, set your expectations low. Obviously the lighter your hair color the more visible a fashion color will show.

“If you have medium to dark hair, Manic Panic semi permanent will show up with a tone in the sun. It gives your hair that color sheen only visible in the light,” said Mei-Li, TSL Beauty Director.

“Sebastian cellophanes add a translucent reflective color. It also gives your hair more shine and protection. Another option is to try is a coloring conditioner. Again, you’ll only see a reflective tone to your hair.”
