DAY 78: Shop My Closet Sunday Funday

Mood: Tired

Weather: Partly overcast, partly sunny, windy

Outfit Purpose: Weekend Outing

Style Savvy: Try not to look like your “mood” while taking pictures (wink). Although I’m super tired and exhausted, I managed to piece this outfit together. I’ve been wanting to incorporate this silk top by Lia Kes I bought from Planet Blue in Santa Monica years ago. The only thing I don’t like about this top is that the peplum part which you can’t see because I tucked it into my skirt, tends to look frumpy when it’s out. It’s not a true peplum cut so I got “savvy” and tucked it in to hide it. When pairing with a black and white piece, like my White House | Black Market skirt, I typically try to find something with color unless I want to go for a color block situation of black and white. In keeping my outfit casual yet chic for the weekend, I slipped on my Paige denim jacket and my fave blue suede heels by Jeffrey Campbell.

FYI: I was also having a bad hair day, maybe I should’ve threw it in a ponytail. Next time.

Personal Style: Sunday Funday

Thoughts: By now you’re probably wondering (or not) how I’m feeling about not shopping? Well honestly, I’m okay with it EXCEPT when I see new fall/winter pieces I’d like to incorporate into my wardrobe and awesome designer/brand collabs that are coming out. That’s the only time I get itchy and want to make a purchase. But the enlightening part of this whole process is that now I’m looking at fashion from a sober point of view, like in my 20’s when I would buy a staple piece that added value and significance to my wardrobe as oppose to buying something for a quick fix, to numb out, use as a distraction.

The past few days I’ve been a bit emotional and feel like I’m going through another phase of processing and healing from my divorce. When I’m in this state, I also wish I could shop. And not soberly shop either. I mean aimlessly shop fast fashion to check out so I don’t have to deal with my feelings. I can’t because I’ve committed to doing this challenge for a whole F-N year!  I am struggling today. I know I’ll get through it, I always do. Life on life’s terms, you just gotta go with it and try to enjoy the ride (smiley face).
