Our very small staff at TSL (The Savvy Life) tried desperately not to binge watch premiere seasons of new shows over the weekend BUT they were so good!
Some TV Apps like HBO Max and Prime Video filter new episodes each week for their original series which is smart. Netflix says, “Here are all the episodes, go for it.”
So we did.
And here’s what we loved.
What We’re WATCHING
EMILY IN PARIS
If you’re a fan of Sex and the City, Younger and Katy Keene, this new Darren Star series will perk you up after a day filled with Zoom meetings and mask wearing.
It’s a sweet tale of an aspiring Social Media marketing executive trying to make her way with an unexpected job promotion to Paris. Take it for what it is. It’s fun, lighthearted and great eye candy.
Patricia Fields, costume director for SATC, didn’t disappoint with the wardrobing and styling. Definitely drool worthy head-to-toe looks you might want to recreate for yourself.
RATCHED
Another Ryan Murphy series drops with his infamous twisted story lines, characters and fantastical sets. Based off of Nurse Ratched from the cult classic movie One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, Sara Paulson takes her character to another level.
We actually watched One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest too. We like Paulson’s Nurse Ratched way better than the original Ratched played by Louise Fletcher.
We especially love seeing Cynthia Nixon (Miranda from SATC) and Sharon Stone in this series.
Because we’re a fan of Ryan Murphy shows like Pose, American Horror Stories, The Politician, Scream Queens and Glee … we had a suspicion that this show wouldn’t disappoint.
If you’re not familiar with Murphy’s shows, then you might take or leave this one. We think it’s an acquired taste.
THIS IS PARIS
Most of us who grew up in the generation of Paris Hilton knows the trajectory of her life. She was everywhere.
We believe she was the first real Influencer years before it was even a thing.
This documentary takes you through her journey of creating her “brand” her “persona” and reveals what may have motivated her to become what she is today.
It’s refreshing to hear her use her “real” voice and be vulnerable about her traumatic experience sent away to youth camps/schools. She opens up about the abuse while at Provo Utah, the last “school” she was sent to by her parents.
We won’t go into every bit of detail about the doc. No spoil alerting going on here.
If you’re curious about seeing a smart business woman that is Paris Hilton, watch this. If you don’t care, skip it. If you’re bored, give it a whirl.
You can view it on YouTube.
What We’re REWATCHING
GAME OF THRONES
We know, we know. WE ALL KNOW HOW IT ENDED. We were there, you were there. Everyone was there.
For some reason we felt like we had to start all over again from the beginning. Now this is tough to binge watch in a weekend. We’ve been binging at least 3 episodes a day.
So far we’re in season 5 and we still enjoy GOT just as much as the first go around. BUT we’re not looking forward to rewatching the last season, especially the last episode.
We’re LOOKING FORWARD to WATCHING
ON THE ROCKS
Although we’re still not sure about seeing movies in the theaters yet, we’re delighted that movies are being released on Apple TV. We’re looking forward to Sofia Coppola’s On The Rocks starring Bill Murray and Rashida Jones.
The best way to learn about this movie and the creative process is to listen to the interview with Sofia on Dax Sheperd’s Podcast Armchair Expert.
If you’re a fan of Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation and Marie Antoinette … this is one you’ll probably want to see. We’re looking forward to this one. We’ve got our reminder alert set.
