Tortoise Shell for Spring?

Yes this is groundbreaking. Tortoise shell accessories have been around for decades. Real tortoise shell items have actually been around since ancient times. In 1973 real tortoise shell was banned from being used because the hawksbill sea turtle was an endangered species.

The warm and distinctive pattern of the shell is now replicated with other materials. Hence, guitar picks, sunglass frames, jewelry, bowls, trinket boxes, minaudières, etc.

I’m seeing a growing trend this year for this timeless, elegant, rich looking material. Especially with handbags and jewelry.

One exciting new way to wear tortoise shell is with a gel mani. This nail artist on Instagram @nailthoughts does an amazing job at recreating different shades of tortoise shell for your claws.

Accessories are having a huge tortoise shell moment. Although sunglasses seem to always be available in tortoise shell, handbags and jewelry are trending in this style. Designers are creating very artistic pieces in tortoise shell.

I’m all over it. I love the warmth and how the colors and pattern seamlessly blend together. It feels luxe.

This year le fiancé pre-ordered my Valentines Day gift. It’s a tortoise shell box bag by Cult Gaia [shop HERE]. I received it a week after V-day since it was pre-order and the delivery date was after February 14th.

When I unboxed my bag, I couldn’t believe I had this unique gem to add to my handbag collection. She, yes she, is perfect. Such a work of art. I’m almost scared to use my bag. But who am I kidding, I will be wearing my bag like crazy!

A little card came with my EOS Box Bag aka tortoise shell bag that reads…

“This unique acrylic Eos Box Bag is handmade by skilled artisans using exceptional materials. Slight variations are to be expected and are what make this piece unique. Perfectly imperfect.”

Another way I’m wearing this chic pattern is with earrings and bracelets. I love when a piece has a mix of gold and tortoise shell making it a little extra and luxe. These baubles will bring a level of sophistication to your daily outfits. And don’t be afraid to layer up your jewelry.

P.S. big jewelry, as in oversized earrings and chunky bracelets are on trend. Frankly I love this, enough with the dainty pieces, let’s have some fun!
