Festival Fashion: Day 1 Coachella Style

Guess what time of year it is? Yep, it’s the start of festival season. That’s right, festival season. You know why? Because annual music festivals kick off with Coachella in April and then spread across the US and other countries throughout the rest of the year ending in August. Hence, festival season. Also, it wouldn’t be fun unless it came with it’s own style and fashion.

In the years past, we’ve seen the typical festival outfit. It consisted of distressed cut-off denim shorts, halter or crochet top, gladiator sandals, lots of turquoise and hammered silver jewelry, fringed bags, flower crowns or “that” hat. I call it the festival hat. It’s basically a Panama hat in either straw, leather or suede with an oversized brim in either black or brown.

This year I’m giving Festival Style an elevated look for the gals who don’t want to run around showing off their midriffs and fannies. Besides there are Spring trends that you can incorporate into your festival ensembles, giving you more wearability with your purchases. Now that’s being savvy. One place I go to for style inspiration and shopping is Fashion Valley a Simon Mall in San Diego. It’s a one-stop shopping destination, especially for all my festival fashion needs.

For Day 1 of this consecutive two-weekend outdoor music scene, my style inspo was inspired by The Secret Garden. One of my favorite books that I couldn’t put down when I was a little girl. The dress I picked out by Johnny Was is called Secret Garden. Seriously a coincidence. I knew the perfect place to shoot this style story too at a not-so-secret garden, The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch.

Here’s the outfit I’ve styled by Scotch & Soda for Day 2. Subscribe to my blog so you don’t miss a post, form below and follow me on Instagram @savvynista.

Embroidered Lucy bomber jacket and Secret Garden silk rose printed dress both by Johnny Was.

Savvy Style Tip: Don’t be matchy matchy with your jewelry. Mix metals and find unique pieces like this hinged jeweled silver ring and Ibiza silver cuff with leather band both by Uno de 50.

Savvy Style Tip: Instead of a gladiator sandal, try one of these lace up open-toe block heeled shoes by Dolce Vita.

Savvy Style Tip: Have fun with sunnies and find a pair in Spring’s lovable color trend, pink. I’m wearing shades from Cotton On.

* This post is in partnership with Fashion Valley a Simon Mall and participating stores. Thank you Johnny Was, Uno de 50, and Cotton On. All opinions expressed and styling are of my own.
