DAY 57: Shop My Closet a la Great Gatsby

Mood: Present

Weather: Hot still, less humid

Outfit Purpose: Sunday Funday

Style Savvy: I’ve been dying to style a look inspired by the Great Gatsby. I know the movie came out awhile ago but it was just released for sale on DVD, so I was reminded again of that time period. My look is a modern day version of 1920’s fashion. The hat I’m wearing by Goorin Bros. is the perfect accessory to add that 20’s flair to my ensemble, paired with my Single floral and peplum dress, vintage Gucci clutch, vintage lucite statement necklace and Jimmy Choo pumps. Where to wear this look? A luncheon, wedding, baby shower, polo match or the horse races.

Personal Style: Modern Day Gatsby

What’s Going On With Me: Back in San Diego already. I know! Quick trip to L.A. I’m glad I came back today to avoid crazy holiday traffic. I did hit some but not too bad. I’ve been sitting at my desk for the past hour thinking about what I’m going to write. My head can take something amazing and beautiful and turn it around to be something I’m doubting or questioning in a under a minute. Because I write, I can take “words” too literal or over think how a person texted me something just by the use of words and context. It’s so ridiculous.

I start to have questions like, “What did he mean by that?” “Does that mean he doesn’t want to do x, y, z now?” “Does this mean he just wants to be friends because he said x, y, z?” It’s insecurity of course. I don’t think any human being doesn’t have a little insecurity when they first start to develop a connection with someone new. Unless you’re completely devoid of feelings all together. I know I’m having these insecure thoughts because I’m not guarding my feelings at the moment. I’m being cautious but I want to go into new relationships with an open heart even if it gets broken again. Otherwise, what’s the point?

Thoughts: Live in love not fear. I’m not talking about that you have to romanticize everything and be overly sweet, loving, kind or compassionate. I’m simply stating that if you come from a place of love, even to the people you don’t know which can be a place of compassion, it feels a lot better than living in fear of [fill in the blank]. You dig?
