DAY 240: Shop My Closet Stripes & Pencil Skirts

Mood: Motivated

Weather: Sunny San Diego

Outfit Purpose: Stylist at Work

Style Savvy: Americana…Parisian…Nautical…let’s call the whole thing Chic. Classically stylish in my striped sweater and navy blue Zara pencil skirt paired with an oldie-but-goodie Missoni heels. For jewelry, I wore pieces that were understated yet designed with intricate details. I mixed all metals from my silver and gold Timex watch to my rose gold druzy & initial necklace and onyx wire wrapped ring both by Wrenn Jewelry. You’ll never go wrong with a well fitted/constructed pencil skirt and a striped sweater or shirt but choose the stripe width wisely.

Personal Style: Classically Chic

What’s Going On: Today marks 8 MONTHS of doing this 365 Days Shop My Closet Challenge with no fashion shopping what-so-ever. I’m in the home stretch and can see a Saint Laurent handbag waiting for me at the end of the road (wink). I was reminded by one of my best friends (who’s a therapist) that I’ve been hit by all the toughest life challenges within 9-10 months from a parent dying, divorce, moving and working in a new city, making all new friends and connections and putting my furry baby to rest. It’s no wonder why I’ve been trying to find distractions and not wanting to face my reality. Here’s the thing that I haven’t fully disclosed but I’m sure many of you picked up on from my writing – I’m a sober woman. I’m coming up on 9 years of sobriety in April but I feel like I’m back in my first year.

When I write about how much pain I’m in and all the chatter in my head it’s because I have the “ism” as I like to call it. Boy does it manifest in other ways from shopping, hence this challenge … men, sweets,  traveling, whatever I can use to fill the void, fixate or obsess about. Unfortunately, there’s no cure for what I have except tools to keep me from self-sabotage. If I’m willing to do the work, then I don’t have to live with internal conflict and torture for the rest of my life. There are days, weeks and months where it’s hard to peel back more layers and look at my shit. If I didn’t have this Shop My Closet Challenge to focus on, god knows where I would be right now. This challenge has been a blessing and this is HOW fashion literally has saved my life.
