DAY 19: Shop My Closet 365 Days Challenge

Mood: Yearning

Weather: Sunny, warmish, breezy

Outfit Purpose: Date Night, Cocktail Party

Style Savvy: There are times when less is more when dressing and this Date Night look is a perfect example. An alternative color to an LBD (little black dress) is navy blue or blush. This Laundry by Shelli Segal dress has the perfect combination of showing less but not showing too much because of the higher neckline, shorter skirt and open back. I kept the accessories simple with a vintage 70’s silver necklace (use to be my mom’s), a fringe metal bracelet, classic Timex watch and for a pop of color, Prabal Gurung for Target neon heels (also worn on Day 12 here).

Personal Style: Sexy Chic

What’s Going On With Me: I’m missing my home. Not necessarily the place I resided with my ex-husband but the area I lived in, Santa Monica. I miss my girlfriends too. Although I talk, email, and text with them throughout the week, it’s just not the same as when I see them in person. I was planning on visiting this weekend but plans fell through so I’m arranging to go up next weekend. I also miss shopping a little. I know, this challenge is getting to me a bit. It hasn’t even been 30 days yet! Geezus it’s going by slow. And I’m doing this for a year? WTF was I thinking? I still want to do this but man, some days it gets old.

Yesterday I shared a little about when my ex-husband and I separated (read here). I didn’t mention that after I left with half my clothes and shoes to my mom’s house that morning, I still had hope that we would resolve our differences and save our marriage. I figured a few days apart would be good for us to clear our heads and come up with some new solutions, things we haven’t tried yet. When I finally spoke to him a few days later, he said that he thought things through and doesn’t want to be married anymore.

I was stunned. I felt like a bomb dropped on me. I had no clue that’s what he would decide because we always seemed to work things out in the past. We just went on a vacation 2 months prior to Belize to celebrate our 6 year wedding anniversary. What? And it seemed he was very much in love with me on vacation, so hence the shock of hearing his decision. I asked him if he was positive or needed more time but he said he was sure.

Thoughts: I saw this quote floating around the internet, “Not everything is meant to be but everything is worth a try.” It can be scary trying new things or starting a new relationship especially if the last one ended in heartbreak. I’m all for trying again whether it’s a new career, business or relationship. It’s about expanding as a person and becoming wiser to share our experience with others so that they may learn from our journeys.
