Build a Timeless Wardrobe for the New Year

The new year breeds thoughts of change and ways to improve. One of my resolutions is to take more fashion risks but another is to be a savvy shopper. I tend to gravitate to the latest trends and things I think would be featured in top Instagram posts or in magazines.

This year I want to focus on building a better wardrobe and cultivating a timeless style, not just the passing trends. I’ve done the research so you don’t have to and I’m going to share the secrets of closet building I learned. Here’s my shopping list, feel free to copy it or make it completely your own.

Turtleneck

Elegant and simple. Neutrals will always be in style. There is something effortlessly stylish and sexy about a tan turtleneck. This can be worn under clothes or on it’s own as a barely there look. Black or white are classic options as well that will remain en vogue.

Trench coat

A natural transition since I mentioned it earlier. A trench coat is an easy way to elevate your outfit. Tres chic and doesn’t have to break the bank depending on where you are shopping. However, this is a great investment piece so if you want to splurge I say go for it!

Cigarette Jeans and Pants

The skinny jean trend came and went. I know for some people they will be a valued part of their wardrobe indefinitely. However if you want a pair of jeans to last with you through every season I would advise you to steer clear of the mom jeans and flares. A chic cigarette pant silhouette will carry you through each changing denim trend. If they fit great then go ahead and get them in black as well.

Loafers

I suggest investing in both black and brown loafers. I am one to lean toward beautiful embellished shoes but in my resolution of building a better closet I will focus on simple designs. They can easily be worn in the workplace or with sheer tights and a skirt for a more feminine look.

Little Black dress

Every closet needs one. Whether you opt for mini or midi length a black dress is the perfect option for an array of occasions. Choose a style that accentuated your favorite features so you feel sexy in it every time you put it on.

Signature Fragrance

Fragrance is a very personal touch and tends to linger after you walk away. I shopped for weeks before trying this one and falling in love with the layering of the notes. Make sure to test a fragrance before you buy it so you can see how long it lasts on your skin. (View our Fragrance reviews HERE + HERE)

Classic Pumps

I would go for a neutral color and pointy toe is my personal favorite shape. This is also where you should invest a little more in a great brand. Pumps can be worn to any formal setting, job interview or special occasion. The plus side of having one or two staple heels is you can spend less time breaking them in and dealing with the blisters.

Jewelry

Jewelry is wonderful because you can fit into it no matter how much weight you gain or lose. Definitely invest in 18 karat gold jewelry and steer clear of fast fashion pieces that will break after a few wears. I suggest a simple necklace that lands at your collar bone so it can be visible with any neckline.

Blazer

Oversize blazers, embellishments and blazer dresses are trendy for the moment however I would suggest a simple, nice fitting blazer from a respected designer.

Silk Camisole

Something you can wear underneath sweaters or on its own with a blazer and jeans. A sexy wardrobe must have.

You can see the outfits coming together now, right? I hope I was able to add a little inspiration to your 2022 wardrobe edit. Remember to follow your personal style, buy what fits properly and only get what makes you feel good about yourself.

If you can’t try it on before you buy make sure to understand the store’s return policy so you don’t get stuck with pieces you cannot wear or exchange for an alternate size.

Style is about confidence so it is very important to know that no clothing label has power over you. The brand, size or price does not matter as long as you feel like the best version of yourself in it.
