We’ll try not to give any spoilers to our list of what we watched, binged, currently viewing and anticipating in January. From a few binge worthy series to movies and a reality show, we hope you enjoy this list if you haven’t watched them already.
YOU CAN’T HELP BUT BINGE WATCH
Bridgerton on Netflix
Couldn’t get enough of this 1813 set in London series of love, arranged marriages and a gossip columnist who remains anonymous until the very end (you’ll find out). We had our suspicions. This fictional fantasy draws you into all the lust and intrigue during a time period where young girls were only groomed for courtship/marriage to support their family and be taken care of. Could you imagine that happening now? LOL. BTW there are some lusty scenes between the two main love interests, Daphne and Simon, and we were all for it. Can’t wait for season 2.
Stylish with Jenna Lyons
Pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to get sucked into this reality/competition show with former J. Crew Creative Director Jenna Lyons. As she navigates her next stylish venture, she employs assistants to compete in various projects. In the end one remains to become an official associate. We loved how real they actually kept this reality show especially during a pandemic. Starting a business isn’t easy for anyone. This gives you a glimpse what it’s like.
Fosse/Verdon on Hulu
This series about Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon (known for Cabaret and Chicago) aired in 2019 but for some reason we missed it. Talk about knock out performances by Sam Rockwell (Fosse) and Michelle Williams (Verdon) as they take you through the life of these two incredible talents. The many ups and downs of Broadway musicals, choreography, making musical movies and personal addictions.
FEEL GOOD MOVIE
Soul on Disney+
Pixar always manages to tug at our heart strings with many messages you can apply in your real life. Leave it to Soul to do just that. A talented musician who is a music teacher but dreams of playing music for living comes across a few challenges that detours his dream. As he fights his way to get to his dream, there are many laughs, tears and aha moments. Grab your tissues.
BLOCKBUSTER CHEESYNESS
WW84 on HBO Max
If you loved the first Wonder Woman movie, get ready to be a bit disappointed with this second edition. We understand why certain storylines had to happen but we were hoping it would’ve gone differently. It was great to see Kristen Wiig in an unexpected role, we loved her character. (Spoiler alert:) It was sad enough when Diana aka Wonder Woman had to say goodbye to the love of her life, Steve, in the first movie and even sadder to see it happen again. Crushing.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FORWARD TO WATCHING IN JANUARY
Dickinson on Apple TV
What can we say, we’re a fan of the classics done in a modern way. Season 2 of Dickinson is airing January 8 and since we just got done binging Bridgerton, we’re excited to continue more love, arranged marriages, family drama and intrigue set back in the 1800s. Emily Dickinson wants to be a writer and an independent woman. She wishes to go against the traditional rules of what a young woman is supposed to do, get married and have children. We’re looking forward to seeing how she avoids all of this whilst cheering, “You go girl!”
Servant on Apple TV
We waited a bit to get into this series. All we can say is WOW. Talk about taking you on a crazy weird unexplainable journey. Is everyone crazy and delusional in this story? Somewhat. We won’t spoil it but if you want a creepy weird thriller to watch, this is one you’ll keep hitting “next episode”. Perfect timing if you haven’t watched this series yet because Season 2 comes out January 15. That means double WTF?
